Baja California Norde - East Coast

Finally we arrive in Bahia de Los Angeles, to appreciate our first real Mexican beach.
--- Note for myself : the following pictures are to be patched as a panoramic view.---

We camped right on the beach, and met a bunch of Mexicans willing to share their beers and beach party atmosphere. Good time.

The morning after we took an off-road track to visit one of the many missions (understand a 18th century church built in the middle of the desert). 30 miles to get there, 20 to get back on the main road. It was everything but good surfacing : gravel, rocks, dust and sand. The bikes did well on those tracks, it was real good fun (although exhausting) except on the deep sand. Nothing to do there but keep the throttle open and pray for the best. We had a few laughs looking at ourselves sliding all over the place. Kagan crashed twice, I went off the track to visit the cactus. The video will show how dusrty we came out of there.

We then passed the semi'border betweem Baja Norde and Sur to camp in San Ignacio. Curiously, as we pass Gerrero Negro, we become one hour ahead compared to Pacific time.

Baja California Norde - West Coast

After checking out the geyser near Ensenada, we spent the first night in a little village called Erendria.

Day 2 we visited the fishing village of St Quintin before taking a long ride through the desert to reach the East Coast.

The desert is beautiful and impressive, but also quite dirty in some places. Speed limit along the Mex 1 varies between 40 and 80kmh, quite irrealisticly sometimes, and everybody is at 110 minimum.

It transforms then into a boulder rock area, where huge cactus grow between rocks.

Baja California Norde - Border

We pass the border of Mexico without stoping. No questions asked.

Departure and California

I am now in Bud's place in California, east of San Francisco. I met Bud in England at Team Roberts. He and his wife welcomed me with open arms and I quite enjoyed meeting up with him again. This area of California is beautiful, well worth seeing.

Below are the first pictures of the trip !

Departure from Kagan's parents' house, 8am on October 8th :

Our first stop at the gas station, the first 250 miles out of how many ?

We camped the first night in the redwoods, nort west of California. Huge trees and great roads. Our first shit in the woods...

Tomorrow we are heading towards San Diego, with a very long day ride, and we will pass the border to Mexico on friday morning.

Preparation of the bike for Central America

BMW F650, 1999, one cylinder with double carburetors. 80% road, 20% off-road.

Spare parts, tools, clothes and camping gears have to fit. Tricky.

Some relevant words from a famous 70s French singer and poet, Jacques Brel. My mum sent them to me. Very adequate to this trip.
